Ads from the long-awaited Spring 2009 campaign for Dolce & Gabbana have finally been released, and it’s a mix of fashionable eye-patches, praying and pajamas for everyone. Shot by long-time Dolce & Gabbana collaborator Steven Klein, the most striking thing about the ads for me is the presence of the large camera equipment in the shots. It’s as if Klein wanted us to have a sneak peek into the dynamics of the shoot and leave the product unfinished. The campaign features models Noah Mills, Julien Quevenne, David Gandy and Adam Senn. There was some hype about the shot of the men kneeling and praying being controversial. But it is not, as far as I am concerned. In fact, Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana explained in an interview with Italian daily La Stampa that the religious bit could be a nod to conservative values: “For sure they will say we are offending religion. Instead it could be read as a return to values. And there is a need for that at this time.” References: dolcegabbana, fashiontography.blogspotFiled In: |
