The accepted age of sexual consent is 16 in most developed nations of the world but by some bizarre twist the age of consent in Japan is only 13! Cultural differences are something that all of us should accept and respect - sexual abuse of children is not a ‘cultural difference’. It’s an atrocity. Experts and doctors in Japan are alarmed at this bizarre law and they are seeing a real increase in the number of sexually active children in the country. Some feel that the increase is due to the lax laws, promotion of children having babies in the media and a weird perception that these children are a boon to Japan’s population decline.
