Designer Hsu Sean's Disperse Riot Shield is a creative invention that aims to avert violence at riots and rallies. The shield isn't actually a shield held by officers, rather it's a barrier that makes it difficult for rioters to reach police.
The idea behind the Disperse Riot Shield is simple. If rioters have to weave in and out of the honeycomb-esque structure, then they will become less likely to reach the police line. The shield will also help to calm rioters down as it's easy to be mad when you can see your antagonists, but hard when you cannot. Plus rioters would have to weave in and out of a maze to get to them.
