26 Disorderly Anorexic Controversies Edit
From Size Zero Glamorization to Anti-Anorexia Art

Although we have seen a significant push towards ‘real beauty’ (thanks Dove) and overall steps towards healthy living, anorexia and super-skinny women will not disappear overnight. There still exists disorderly anorexic controversies for and against (damn right) the debilitating disorder. It saddens me that men and women are still struggling, on such an extreme level, with their weight. It saddens me more that there are ‘pro-anorexic’ people and groups (er, Ralph Lauren).

I appreciate how Ivonne Theirn uses the shock factor to heighten awareness about a very real problem. The exhibit also makes a statement about the media and its powerful position as the intermediary between models, and well, us. Digitally touching photos and then printing them as if completely natural, not only creates this unattainable level of "perfect beauty," but also stifles any individual expressions of beauty in mainstream culture. Thein does an excellent job of bringing these issues to the forefront of pop culture.
