Samsung's recent digital healthcare initiative doesn't only consist of products like their Simband smartwatch but also includes their S Health platform that is said to connect the electronics giant with a new audience of consumers.

Powered by research, the company's Simband product is equipped with six sensors that track one's health and fitness level on a greater scale than traditional fitness devices. Samsung's digital healthcare initiative is powered by a platform that will give consumers more insight and medical research that is related to their overall health.

"We know that wearables help us better monitor physical activity, but this is only one element of a digital health ecosystem," said Samsung president Won-Pyo Hong in a recent interview.

Hong also mentioned that Samsung's aim is to ultimately help 'healthcare providers, pharmaceutical companies and app developers' to better understand their industry.
