Dan Rather Sues CBS for $70 Million

Way back when (Sept., 2004) Dan Rather reported that President Bush did not perform his duties while in the National Guard, his report aired, but CBS later fired three news executives and a producer for airing the program and claimed that the report was a lie.
The former anchorman is seeking $20 million in compensatory and $50 million in punitive damages, stating that CBS used him as a “scapegoat.” He adamantly maintains that” the story is true.”
 Dan Rather filed a $70 million lawsuit Wednesday against CBS, alleging that the network made him a "scapegoat" for a discredited story about President Bush's National Guard service.
The 75-year-old Rather, whose final months were clouded by controversy over the report, says the complaint stems from "CBS' intentional mishandling" of the aftermath of the story.
