Traditional manual grinders are usually easily identifiable as bowl-like objects accessorized with round-ended utensils. The Cube Mortar & Pestle deviates from this aesthetic type, causing one to question the set's use when laying eyes upon it for the first time.
This contemporary rendition of a non-electric kitchen appliance was designed by Semiha Kan to be stored sideways when it is not being used. The hexahedral form is tipped over to reveal a smooth semispherical indentation while providing an impressed cradle on top in the glossy porcelain material. It is here where the crushing implement can be carefully stored.
Unlike many objects of its kind, this one has been sculpted so that both pieces fit snugly together. The Cube Mortar & Pestle is a delightful tool in terms of both function and aesthetics.
