I will preface my comments with the assumption that those who published these HORRIBLE children’s books, had some sort of rationale behind their doing so. That being said, these are examples of GROSS errors in judgment. These books are traumatic and should never have been published!

There are positive and productive ways of helping troubled kids. Wallowing in filth is not one of those ways. A little girl who talks about the ‘tingle in her vagina’ is totally crossing the line. You don’t need to be crass in order to help disturbed kids. And what about the young innocents you’ll defile when they mistakenly come across this forbidden stuff?

Other horrible books (although perhaps in other ways) are The Cat With the Really Big Head (Roman Dirge) and The Death of Melancholy Oyster Boy (Tim Burton). And while we’re on the topic: Johnny The Homicidal Maniac: Director’s Cut by Jhonen Vasquez and Squee’s Wonderful Big Giant Book of Unspeakable Horrors by Jhonen Vasquez, are both equally nasty.

The title story is about a gothic witch-like little girl (who floats, doesn't walk). She is an outcast, of course. She has a crush on another boy, and "her vagina tingles" every time she sees him. To decide what to do, she goes to the graveyard and digs up her skeletal grandmother. In the end, she ends up murdering the guy. Then there's the story about the narcoleptic dog that gets buried alive by its owners. The End. And then there's the story about the girl with the cracked up mom, who goes around getting progressively crazier, (not to mention grotesquely illustrated, half-naked with a bottle popped over one breast, for instance.) Anyway, the daughter eventually realizes her mom isn't right and worries that she will grow up to be like her. And she did (everything2)
