There is something quite whimsical about the Crane Floor Lamp. Although it is obviously inspired by a crane, its shape and material make it also look like a stripped-down tree that still wants to protect and shade anyone that rests underneath its reach. It is this singlemindedness that lends a romantic and chivalrous vibe.

Designed by Matt Downer, who was raised in Manhattan Beach and now works and lives in Telluride, the Crane Floor Lamp is quite the departure from the sketchy skateboards and catapults he used to build as a child. Yet it is that passion for woodwork that made him pursue it despite an degree in philosophy and religious studies.

The Crane Floor Lamp’s elegant stance and soft lighting shows how talented and skilled Downer is. The golden rock on the end is an especially nice touch.
