More than just a plastic cylinder with ink the Livescribe Pulse Smartpen it’s a minature computer. Still available to be used for conventional writing, however as your writing the pen will make a digital file of whatever you write and sketch. In order to do this the pen uses an infrared camera to read a code of tiny grey dots on the paper, using the special paper from Livescribe or you can download the graphics file and print it out onto your regular paper. That’s not all this lil guy can do, using a control pad at the bottom of the notebook you can record all audio around you as you are writing (Ideal for a journalist giving an interview), and when you are done simply tap the ink on the page to play back what was just recorded. Hoping to get these pens on the market in min March for $150. But don’t think that’s all the Smartpen can do, it can also, create 3D audio files, flash animations and access commentary in a book.
