Influencing power and water consumption reduction can be a real challenge in hotels, given that guests feel they're paying for an all-inclusive package when it comes to these amenities. Because of this, resorts and hotels are among the largest consumers of such utilities, leaving plenty of room for more eco-friendly practices.

If money spent influences the potential overuse of warm water and illumination for a guest, than surely money can influence greener behaviors too. Parag Anand and Aditi Singh came up with the idea of a new keycard that's capable of storing water and electrical use information. When the guest enters his room, he inserts the Save3 card into its base on the wall, which is connected to metering devices in the faucets and light switches. Consumption reduction would be possible when the guests know that the less they use, the more of a discount they get upon checkout.
