The designer of the Comme des Garçons Fall 2014 Menswear Collection left the audience pondering an aesthetic war between necessity and frivolity. Silhouettes toy with the balance of scruffy tailored suiting while it misses all the vital pockets in oval cutouts at the heart and hip level.
It really makes you wonder how incomplete these garments look without the minuscule details that finish them. We go about our day putting things in our pockets without realizing how inconvenient it would be to not have them.
Jackets also featured frayed, zippered windows, but beneath those, what starts as clean, white shirting becomes more opulent as the looks progress. They're injected with ruffles and frills, extending below blazers or poking out as prom king yokes. Glitter zebra and polka dot jacquards fronted the season's exuberant finale as the designer finished with layered lapel-shaped scarves.
