Faculty at Delft University of Technology are tediously designing what they call ‘the ultra-eco-friendly plane’. It’s hard to say what the four year project dubbed “CleanEra” will come up with. They doubt the final product will look like this flying saucer, but it’s difficult to imagine given the multi-disciplinarian group of scientists that make up the team.

The Delft eco-friendly plane will not be ready for take off in four years. But a preliminary design will be complete. The concepts will be further developed in sub-projects but will not be integrated in actual aircraft before 2020. (crave.cnet)
