The Cocoon_FS is a Portable Structure for PlanktonTech

By: Meghan Young - Published: • References: pohlarchitekten.de & contemporist
The Cocoon_FS pavilion is inspired by a type of phytoplankton called diatoms. Built for the PlanktonTech organization, a German research institution that studies plankton, this unique structure represents the company's main focus. It provides a portable space for researchers to use while they travel around the world promoting their work.

Created by German-based design firm Pohl Architects, the Cocoon_FS pavilion is not made out of plankton. Instead, it is constructed out of fiber-reinforced polymer panels. These panels have a unique pattern that gives it an organic aesthetic. Considering what this structure is being used for, that detail is not surprising in the least.

Pristine and white during the day, the Cocoon_FS pavilion lights up a bright hot pink during the night. Stats for Phytoplankton-Inspired Pavilions Trending: Older & Average
