The city of Detroit has gotten a bad wrap since its evident downturn and when we're faced with images of the metropolis, we're usually bombarded with broken-down houses and abandoned buildings.

However, in recent years the city is turning out to be not all that bad. In fact, there are some good things happening and buildings are being repurposed, built and re-used.

Some amazing examples are evident thanks to Google Maps and the Detroit Urbex project. Detroit Urbex has an amazing feature up about the rise, fall and restoration of the city, which shows you before and after photos of major buildings and hotels like the Kendrick Manufacturing Co., Grand Army of the Republic Building, Hotel Fort Shelby, Book-Cadillac Hotel, Dequindre Cut Greenway and more. Among others, all of these sites have been refurbished into beautiful spaces that aim to pick Detroit off its feet.
