Chinese Olympic Money - Bank Notes Commemorate Beijing Games (GALLERY)

These photos released by China’s Xinhua news agency display the new 10-yuan banknote (US $1.45) to commemorate the Beijing Olympic Games. The notes were issued by the central bank People’s Bank of China in Beijing on Monday, July 7, 2008.

Gone from the banknote is the image of Chairman Mao which was replaced by a sketch of the new National Stadium, the “Bird’s Nest” which is the emblem of the Beijing Games. Both old and new notes are set against the backdrop of the Temple of Heaven, one of Beijing’s iconic sites.
