According to the Associated Press, Nine people went on trial Monday in connection with China’s tainted milk scandal and steps are in order to compensate the families harmed with the contaminated milk. First on the chopping block is former boss of the milk company. It continues to say that four of these suspects face charges ranging from 10 years in prison to the death penalty. Too often in the world we see companies and executives turning a blind eye, or cutting corners in the name of maximization of profits resulting in harm to us, their trusted consumers. Sure death penalties might seem a bit stiff, but if you knowingly sign off on a project that will do harm to others…where is the difference between shooting someone, or a drunken hit and run with your vehicle and so on. People go to jail everyday for one on one crimes, why wouldn’t responsible bound entities also be charged for crimes. The old school thought of “I am getting paid big bucks to sign off on this and only the company will get charged” might finally come to a close. Especially if execs would be criminally responsible for their direct actions, we might actually have a safer world. References: ap.org, ctv Filed In: |
