The Chaparral 2X Vision Gran Turismo is a race car with a radical design, borne out of the creative and engineering minds at Chevrolet, that uses a conceptual laser powertrain that provides 900 horsepower of thrust. The futuristic concept vehicle was unveiled at the LA Auto Show.

The vehicle builds its forward momentum from a laser propulsion system more associated with space travel than track racing. A 671 KiloWatt laser creates beams of light that provoke shock waves, generating thrust. With assistance from an air generator, the laser mechanism offers 900 horsepower of thrust.

In the video game world -- which is where this car will likely reside -- this translates to a track speed of 386 km/h. In the virtual world, the Chaparral 2X will be able to go from zero to 60 mph in only 1.5 seconds.
