Access to clean water is a huge barrier keeping many people in developing communities trapped in a cycle of poverty, which is why this ceramic water filter startup exists. Not only does SPOUTS provide clean drinking water to impoverished areas of Uganda, the social enterprise also provides jobs and empowers locals.

Made out of clay and rice husks, the ceramic water filter is an eco-friendly and sustainable product. They are designed to eliminate 99.9% of contaminants in water as well. SPOUTS provides their filters for free to schools, refugee camps and prisons as well as 400 units a month to retailers.

This charitable endeavor addresses the issue of 30% of Ugandans without clean water access, not to mention the high child mortality rate due to water-borne diseases, as well as introducing a new source of income.
