The state of Alabama is showing its support to Carrie Prejean, the Miss USA contestant whose politically incorrect answer to a question about same-sex marriage might have cost her the title.

The Alabama House has approved a resolution that praises Carrie Prejean for speaking out against gay marriage.

Carrie Prejean, who holds the Miss California USA title, answered a question by jury member Perez Hilton about the current hot topic of gay marriage by saying she believes marriage should be between a man and a woman.

The Alabama House approved the resolution on Thursday 23 April by Republican Rep. Jay Love of Montgomery on a voice vote.

Carrie Prejean finished second in the Miss USA pageant and her view on the touchy subject has overshadowed the actual competition winner.

With Alabama supporting the anti-gay stance of Carrie Prejean, they are assuming that the gay community are not equal to those of the straight community. This is especially a bad thing to do with the amount of publicity that Miss California's statement has been getting.

Anti-gay stance? Prejean simply answered a question about whether she supports gay marriage, and apparantly, she doesn't. As is typical with polarizing topics like this, the attitude by the minority (and yes, the gay community IS a minority), is "If you're not with me, then you are against me." Should the gay community chose this stance as their rallying cry, I think you will quickly find out that the gay community is NOT the equal of the straight community. They are simply more vocal. The "Silent Majority" of the United States is silent for a reason. Most of them are unaffected by these situations, and therefore, are not forced to take a stand on them. If you try to villify Prejean for her opinion, I believe it is the gay community that will be surprised. If anyone should be held to task over this, it is Perez Hilton. He had the right to vote the way he did, but then to call her a "stupid bitch" in his blog? This "bottom-feeder" is who you want representing the gay community? He wants his rights respected, when he constantly tramples the rights of others? You can do better folks. For the record, I am neither anti-gay, nor am I homophopic. I believe you have the right to live your life as you chose, and I would prefer to see the Government stay out of personal issues of this nature. Put it on the ballot, and let the individual citizens vote per state.
