Noor Island is a lagoon island in the middle of Arab Emirate Sharjah and starting in December its park will feature the structurally impressive Butterfly Pavilion.
The enormous outer structure of the pavilion is made from a "load-bearing 3D frame" and thousands of aluminum leaves that are clustered together to look like flowers. The inside of the pavilion will feature 500 different species of butterflies and an artificial rain forest ecosystem. The beautiful structure was designed to combine a variety of elements -- "technology and nature, light and shadow, modern and traditional" are materials and themes that inspired the large frame.
