The Burj Al-Taqa Energy Tower is a proposed green structure to be built in the UAE. Designed by Eckhard Gerber, the zero emission building will incorporate all elements, sun, water, and air to generate its own energy. When complete, the tower will stand 322 meters and serve as a commercial high rise. “The 68-story structure will use natural air conditioning based on Iranian wind towers which draws wind in and down to cool interiors,” Inhabitat said. “Gerber’s cylindrical design uses this principal to ventilate the tower. A central atrium will provide fresh air inflow. The incoming air will be pre-cooled with seawater, dispersed throughout the building and ventilated through a double-skin glass façade. Tubing throughout the ceilings will run cool water for additional radiant thermal comfort.” It’s interesting to watch the Middle East set the pace for eco-friendly architecture.
