Bring Your Parents To Work Day - New Spin on Old Tradition

Ogilvy PR has put a spin on the “Bring Your Kid to Work Day,” tradition by launching the “Bring Your Parents To Work Day.”

Employees of the global marketing communications firm were constantly frustrated in their ability to explain what it is they did to their parents, so the Ogilvy proposed the event to allow parents to accompany their children to work.

“This industry has grown tremendously in recent years and we want to spotlight the power of PR in the marketplace and educate parents about the impact of what their children do in their careers,” CEO Marcia Silverman said in a press release.

“We are very proud of our employees and the work we do here at Ogilvy PR and this is just another way to celebrate their accomplishments.”

This is an excellent idea that could be useful in so many fields, particularly for those working in newer career fields or jobs that involve technology and the web. Instead of getting frustrated or keeping them out of the loop, initiatives like these help keep the family bond strong.

My dad would definitely benefit from a day like this!

Similar to “Bring Your Child to Work Day”, “Bring Your Parents to Work Day” will allow attendees to learn more about the profession as well as the challenges and experiences communications professionals experience on a daily basis. As part of the day’s festivities, parents will attend a classroom-style PR 101 lesson, receive an overview of the core business practices of Ogilvy PR, and engage in a brainstorm session and mock presentation.
