Brooklyn Sesame is taking the community by storm, debuting a product that breaks down dense, crumbly blocks of sweet halva into a delicious bread spread. Halva is a traditional food enjoyed all over the world in diverse forms and is a particular favorite of Israeli Jews, including Shahar Shamir.

After arriving to Brooklyn from Tel Aviv, he's been missing his Mediterranean confection but couldn't find a version that wasn't highly processed and unhealthy. As a result, he began experimenting with grinding sesame seeds down to a nutty tahini base that he sweetened with raw honey. He then spread the creamy paste on to bread to pair with savory cheeses or ice cream.

There are no artificial flavors or preservatives in the spread and it's naturally preserved by the honey, so refrigeration is not needed either.
