It’s places like the island of Bonaire that make me think that my pristine paradise is out there somewhere. This island within the Netherlands Antilles will be the first in the Caribbean to run on 100% sustainable energy. Bonaire’s sustainable power plan is comprised of a 1MW wind farm, 14MW biodiesel plant and a 3.5MW backup battery, according to Inhabitat. The flagship of the entire operation is the wind farm, which can produce enough energy for Bonaire’s 15,000 permanent residents on its own. References: infobonaire, inhabitat Filed In: |
