During an AIDS event held in the city of Delhi, actor, Richard Gere and Bollywood actress, Shilpa Shetty discovered that star-status holds little sway over India’s strict laws. Both have been charged with ‘indulging in an obscene act’ and warrants have been issued for the pairs arrest.

And what was this so-called obscene act? Richard Gere kissed Shilpa Shetty in full public view during the televised event… a definite no-no according to India’s conservative laws.

The pair faces jail time and stiff fines if convicted. The seemingly innocent act has sparked protests and even burning of posters of Bollywood actress, Shilpa Shetty.

A court in Jaipur has issued a non bailable arrest warrant against Hollywood actor Richard Gere for "indulging in an obscene act" when he planted kisses on Indian actor Shilpa Shetty during an AIDS function in Delhi. Activists burn the posters of Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty in Bhopal on Monday. Protests are in the wake of recent kiss controversy sparked off by Hollywood actor Richard Gere during an HIV prevention function, in New Delhi on Sunday. (hindustantimes)
