From starting off in the underground scene to, the widely growing Teletoon/Adult swim cartoon that popularizes The dark Celtic style and sound of black/death metal. Now this genera is becoming more and more popular everyday. Ever since the creation of the 1st fret accurate cartoon Metalocalypse, created by Brendon Small, the stereotype is now even more widely known then ever before. With the cartoon’s morbid humor, and dark theme, people all over are beginning to adapt this persona and appreciate the scene. Some original followers of this style are ether in favor of this trend becoming a member of the mainstream, while others fear loosing the individuality and the secretary of there scene by the invasion of outsiders looking to explore this lifestyle. Black/ Death has many mysterious origins. From gaining inspiration from the early pagans, the dark Celtic ages, and the medieval times , early thrash metal bands such as Slayer, Kreator and Celtic Frost. Along with the band Death and its front man Chuck Schuldiner (who is often referred to as “the father of death metal”)bands like Possessed and Morbid Angel.
The whole outlook of this rapidly growing trend really comes from slasher film-stylized violence, Satanism, anti-religion, Occultism, mysticism, philosophy and social commentary. Although me all must keep that though many artists and followers promote and where satanic friendly and occult merchandise, few death metal musicians actually actively practice occultism, mysticism, or Satanism.
However, Black metal on the other hand has much similarities to death metal , only thing is that black metal has more of a Gothic element to it. Its inspiration generally comes from the seasons (particularly winter), nature, mythology, folklore, philosophy and fantasy narratives. Differanted vocals, and usually more erie riffs. But both orignate from the same artists from the 80’s.
since the style is one if the darkest styles existent today it is commonly labeled as goth. But the style, even though it shares much similarities with each other, they still have there own different origins. For example, goth is usually inspired from the Victorian ages, while Black/Death metellers get the style from the historic Celtic, Saxon, Viking and Chivalric cultures. Over all the whole head banger look still has it roots in the biker, rocker, and leather subcultures from the 80’s.
With the growing popularity of morbid, dark humerus comedies, becoming more and more popular such as metalocalypse, and heavy metal 2000, the dark stereotype just gets more and more mainstream. Bands suck as Cradle of filth, behemoth, Slipknot and Dethklok from the infamous cartoon metalocalypse, just put the theme right onto the set fro the whole world to see along with there vastly growing popularity amongst today’s society.
Black/Death metal has always been around rather it be just the fascination with the dead, an interest in the music. A need for exception so a turn into the underground society. but this has now began to grow into a mainstream trend based on the demonic image, rebellion against our regular society. As well as a fascination and obsession with morbid horror films, bodily mutilation, dark enchanting themes, mysticism, ancient folklore and other pagan type themes. normally the general public is in awe over this type of fascination in another. But with its growing popularity , more and more people are beginning to develop there own fascination with the whole theme and lifestyle. Stats for Black/Death Metal Trending: Older & Chilly
