Local Vietnamese architecture and design studio Vo Trong Nghia Architects has been enlisted to create a house called The Binh Thanh House that is able to respond and interact with a city's tropical regional climate that plays in between interior and exterior spaces. The Binh Thanh House is located in the dense urban city of Ho Chi Minh in Saigon. In collaboration with Japanese design studio Sanuki + Nishizawa Architects, the house is designed for two family generations, a 60 year old couple and their son's family.
The house is located near a riverbank and wildlife surrounding it. Inspired by the regional tropical climate, the house accommodates two different styles of living. One is inspired by Vietnamese traditions that uses light as the main source of inspiration, while the other uses modern technology to stabilize the internal temperature of the structure.
The structure's exterior is encased in punctured concrete blocks to enhance the connection between indoors and outdoors, with three stories of living quarters.
