Behind Photographs is a new book by Tim Mantoani that provides a unique look beyond some of the most iconic images of recent decades. Mantoani has created an incomparable collection of 150 portraits of famous photographers holding an image they are best known for, shot using a rare large format 20x24-inch Polaroid camera.

While most of the infamous images are instantly recognizable, the faces who captured them are, for the majority, a lot less well-known. Behind Photographs, priced at $60, includes photos of iconic memories of popular culture and their creators, like Steve McCurry and his photo of a young Afghan refugee from 1984, and Mark Seliger with his portrait of Kurt Cobain. Other pictures in Behind Photographs depict important moments in history such as Muhammad Ali's victory over Sonny Liston, Marilyn Monroe in her prime and an emotionally charged shot taken on 9/11.
