Beautiful Ennui - New Elbow Video "One Day Like This"

Boredom is the new black, as espoused by Ringan Ledwidge’s marvellous new video for Elbow.

Playing out a little like the magical dancing plastic bag scene in “American Beauty”, Ledwidge takes the everyday occurrence of LA sign twirlers and elevates it to a meditation on the creativity of ennui: a young guy hoists his “Condo Now Selling” sign and proceeds to dance, throw and juggle the sign in a beautiful reminder that great visual storytelling can come through the simplest things.

Ledwidge was due to shoot a big commercial job in LA, but after it cancelled he went anyway and decided to shoot this, which was then pitched to Universal after the fact. Bless, even the big guys can take time out to do something low key.
