The ashes of Irish-Canadian actor, James Doohan, who played “Scotty” on the popular “Star Trek” series were “beamed” into outer space on April 28, 2007, in Hatch, New Mexico. Doohan died in July 2005 at age 85, after a long illness.

His widow hopes that the ceremony will encourage future space travel.

The ashes of Star Trek actor James Doohan have been successfully launched into space from a site in New Mexico, watched by cheering fans. Launching a single gram of ashes costs $495 (£248), while sending remains into deep space, a service which comes into effect from 2009 will cost up to $12,500 (£6,257). (physorg)
