AT&T Sponsors Jim Burton and Sues NASCAR
[Edit]
Telecommunications giant, AT&T, filed a motion in US District Court on Monday, March 26, 2007 to remove Cingular and add its logo to 31 Car driven by Nextel Cup winner, Jim Burton.
AT&T recently acquired Cingular when it merged with Bell South and is in the process of “eliminating the brand name.”
At the same time, AT&T is suing NASCAR for refusing to allow the company to make the logo switch on the car, because of NASCAR’s deal with Nextel, a telecommunications competitor and sponsor of the race that restricts NASCAR from signing sponsorship agreements with telecom competitors.
I really wish they’d cut the crapola. All I want to do is go to Dover International Speedway in Delaware this June, open a beer, and enjoy the race. Everybody already knows that AT&T bought Cingular. Trust me, if you go online and Google “Cingular,” these little icons pop-up all over the place like a swarm of mosquitoes at a nudist colony, letting you know that “Cingular Wireless is now the new AT&T.” If they keep it up, I’m rooting for a competing motor sports team.
