SoundHound may be best known for its music recognition app, but its new voice-enabled assistant app -- dubbed Hound -- takes on broader roles and is designed to be able to rival the likes of Siri and Google Now.

What makes this particular assistant app stand out among the crowd is that it is claimed to be able to comprehend and respond to more complicated queries. For example, you could ask the app what time the sun is going to set three years from now in London and it will give you the answer. It can also competently handle follow-up questions.

Ultimately, Hound's complex workings mean it could be used in a variety of contexts ranging from cars and smartphones to wearable gadgets and other connected technologies that could benefit from smoother human-machine interaction.
