The ‘Art of Rap’ made its debut at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival. It is now set to be released on DVD this September. Director Ice-T’s expertise and knowledge of the industry drew in an impressive cast with cameos by Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Kanye West, Mos Def, Q-Tip and more.

Ice-T’s interviews aim to sketch the history and development of the rap scene. The long list of artists speak of their struggles with music and their personal lives, many of whom describe how they managed to overcome overwhelming obstacles.

Great emphasis is also placed on New York City, the arguable heart of the hip-hop crowd since the 1980s. Shots of the statue of liberty and skyscrapers add artistic notes to the entertaining star-studded montage. Stats for Hip-hop Review Films Trending: Older & Chilly
