 Aria Blu Karaoke bar owners saw a peak in interest in 1996. In an attempt to spark a revival, karaoke bars like Tokyo’s Aria Blu are offering private and themed rooms, each with a different atmosphere. They’re targeting the 20-30 demographic as well as business people looking for an entertaining night out. Unlike the U.S. where Karaoke is an afterthought, Aria Blu offers theme rooms such as “Hollywood”, “botanical” and “lagoon” and offer, in addition to alcohol, gourmet meals provided by outstanding chefs.
 Other establishments offer foot spas and jacuzzis, or anime-themed rooms and meals. Apparently, a leading cause of the slump in the karaoke industry is the competition from electronic gadgets, which takes up more and more of young people's entertainment budget and time.
