'And Darkness Descended' is a Play Based on Resistance 3

‘And Darkness Descended’ is an ingenious marketing ploy meant to marry the most revered visual medium with the most reviled visual art: theater and video games, respectively.

Developed by Insomniac Games, Resistance 3 is the final instalment in the science-fiction franchise that helped launch and maintain the Playstation 3 platform. In tandem with Sony and theater production company Punchdrunk, Insomniac games is preparing to show off ‘And Darkness Descended,’ an interactive play based on the first-person shooter. Beginning September 1 and running until September 4, this interactive production will force audience members to cooperate to defeat the sinister alien invaders.

As improvisation is a big part of Punchdrunk’s productions, this one will be no exception—the audience will have to outfox the Chimera aliens, who have already killed 90 percent of humanity. If anything, this will prove to be a subtle, yet powerful means of introducing the IP to newcomers and theater-goers.
