Butlers, martinis and five course meals are making their way aboard Amtrak’s rails this fall. The national railroad has teamed up with GrandLuxe Rail Journeys to attach seven GrandLuxe cars to existing Amtrak routes.

GrandLuxe service will operate separately from the regular Amtrak service. Each segment will have a dining and lounge car and room for 47 passengers.  Presently GrandLuxe passengers will not be able to disembark at intermediate Amtrak stops due to platform configurations, but that could change in the future.

Tickets for the two and three day GrandLuxe Limited trips will range in price from $789 to $2,499.

For its longer trips, GrandLuxe operates one 21-car train that consists of old passenger cars from the 1940s and 1950s — a time when train travel had not yet been overshadowed by the interstate highway system and commercial aviation. The cars have been refurbished to conform to modern standards and to add "a level of luxury that never existed," said Christina Messa, vice president of marketing for GrandLuxe. (news.yahoo)

I cant believe AmTrack does this? Wow. But costs 245.00 for LA to San Diego commutte alone. Getting stiffed by AmTrack. Nice.
