These African baskets called ‘Bulawayo Baskets’ by Design Afrika are handmade by traditional artisans from all over Africa. They are part of an effort to provide a sustainable income to the indigenous people living there. These baskets help to preserve their local traditions and are dramatically proportioned one-of-a-kind baskets. They are inspired by the over-sized vessels of South African potter Louise Gelderblom, but they are also reminiscent of gourds.

Partnering with the indigenous crafters throughout Africa, Design Afrika works to bridge the gap between local traditional and world-wide design. These baskets are original and exclusive to African design, complete with black woven patterns with wide base shapes. These baskets come in different shapes and sizes, but overall provide an indigenous tribal feel that only authentic African design can offer.
