Advertisements and society illustrations from 1930’s newspapers found in the artist’s kitchen walls, vintage Japanese postage stamps, hand-colored French postcards, and bits of antique lace are all components of the artful jewelry from Minnesota artist Jaana Mattson of the Applied Arts studio.

Each piece of jewelry is a unique creation that uses recycled elements in addition to soldered sterling findings and chain. Many of the items are reversible, giving the wearer dual options.

Visit her website for more information and to make purchases.

Creating wearable art from mixed materials and techniques is a culmination of my broad background in craft methods and found object assemblage. The glass, paper, fiber and metal jewelry draws on my past work with metalsmithing, stained glass and textiles. I began my studies in craft media at Skidmore College, and since receiving my MFA with a focus in fibers from the University of Washington-Seattle in 1999 my work has evolved from interactive sculpture and found object assemblage to jewelry.
