ACTIFE PLASSITY by Kate Steciw, an artist born in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, and based in Brooklyn, New York, is a series of artworks that were created using five specific stock images. Manipulated to create 12 works in total for her first solo show in Germany, each image was chosen based on instinct, coming together in one file that was layered and reconfigured at the whim of the artist.
Foregoing the use of traditional rectangular frames, the artworks displayed in ACTIFE PLASSITY by Kate Steciw also don't end within the frames. Instead decals, wheels, hooks and chain are all added "to further challenge our traditional concepts of how photographs should be presented," as Cool Hunting notes. Steciw says, "Furthermore adhering something—anything, really—to the surface of the frames is a simple way of introducing another dimension and, in the case of the wheeled floor pieces, another potential action (movement) or attribute (speed)."
