All of the graphics in the 80s and 90s cartoon shows are incomparable to today's amazing hi-resolution shows. Pixel art was heavily used at the time, because of the resolution limitations, but todays artists are bringing it back in full force by choice -- just not to their TVs.
Anthony Barros of Boo! Studios to Wired recently revealed his latest series of illustrations and it's all pixelated and extremely nostalgic. It was created in homage to the pixelated characters of his past. Having grown up in the 90s, he depicted cartoon characters from shows like Dexter's Laboratory, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, X-Men and the Power Puff Girls.
Ironically, many of these characters are swinging back into pop culture today with new movie renditions like TMNT and X-Men: Days of Future's Past.
