Always wanted to be Jacques Cousteau, but hated the ultra tight wetsuits? Well here is your chance to explore the last true frontier. Howard Halls new IMAX movie allows people to see the wonders of the ocean in 3D. So you may not end up with the smell of the sea in your nose, but you also don’t have to worry about that 15 foot white shark either.
But fulfilling a decades-old dream, or capturing never-before-filmed animals and behavior, is not why Hall made Under the Sea 3D. The filmmaker, who traveled to Papua New Guinea, Indonesia and other remote locations, wanted to draw attention to the effects of global warming on the planet's oceans. "Nobody who's been diving for more than 10 years can escape [noticing] the major changes happening in the ocean," Hall says, who cites overfishing and pollution as other key causes of ocean degradation. "[But] people are not going to care about something they know nothing about. You're not going to care if an animal is going extinct if you've never seen it, never heard about it. So our goal is to give people some familiarity with these wonderful environments and these amazing animals."
