TV Contest is Now Closed - Winner Announced!

Thanks for all of the submissions!

The winning pitch has finally been announced and we couldn’t be more excited!

Talpa has selected Cameron Porsandeh’s idea, I NEVER, as the winner of the TV pitch contest with TrendHunter.com. It’s a high-stakes game show for “everyone who believes they’re a good judge of character and are prepared to prove it.”

Congratulations, Cameron!

P.S. If you still have ideas for edgy non-scripted TV shows, then you should visit and join TalpaCreative.com.

Create the Next Television Hit!

Trend Hunter and John de Mol (creator of Big Brother, Fear Factor and Deal or No Deal) want your ideas for the next non-scripted television hit! You could win $4,000 PLUS if Talpa options your show, an initial fee and percentage ownership of the format!

Hello Trend Hunters:

John de Mol is working specifically with the Trend Hunter community to tap into creative minds like YOURS.  John explained to us, “I am certain that someone with little connection to the TV industry is sitting on a truly great non-fiction show concept.”

In short, whether you’re a blogger, marketer, journalist, designer, or creative, you’ve now got the power to launch a hit TV show

If you don’t have an idea, it’s time to dive a little deeper into our delicious database of 25,000 trends

When you’re ready to roll, it’s EASY to enter.  Just describe your idea using our form, and we’ll follow up on the best entries.

Finally, THINK BIG.  Think of an original, BIG, out-of-the box and entertaining non-scripted idea that could be broadcast internationally. We are looking for ground-breaking ideas. (Almost) everything is possible, but make sure your format is also producible. Try to explain your idea as clearly and visually as possible using strong examples.

The Prize - The best idea will receive a prize of $4,000, BUT Talpa may decide to option more formats. If they option your show idea, you will receive an initial fee and a percentage ownership of the format. Additional winners may be announced if there are multiple ideas John de Mol and his team believe have potential to be the next great non-scripted series.

The contest Ends December 6, 2008, and you can enter up to two ideas…

Good Luck!

Jeremy Gutsche

With the creativity we see at Trend Hunter, this contest is bound to stir some up some incredible ideas! You could go for a physical challenge like Dancing with the Stars, The Biggest Loser or Survivor, career-based shows or something groundbreaking like Big Brother 2.0...

How cool that someone here will win $4K. My guess is that the winning idea will have some sort of Dancing With The Stars format (combined with Fear Factor, of course).

By: Jacob Courtade on Oct 22, 08 | 99 Trends | 603 Comments

Wonderful, what a great idea and opportunity! Good luck, everyone! By the way Bee, my show will not be like Dancing with the Stars. It'll blow your mind!

God! You have noooo idea how much I love Big Brother and pretty much every reality show ever existed! Well, except that rock of love crap! Talk about sucking the life outa TV!

I am gonna wear James's (i.e. bossman's) thinking cap tomorrow :D

By: Noora Abu Eitah on Oct 22, 08 | 277 Trends | 51 Comments

No love for Rock of Love? But it's the only reality dating show that includes both a shooting range and strip poles... LOL.

By: Jeremy Gutsche on Oct 22, 08 | 1755 Trends | 2594 Comments

lol...right...i forgot...men dig that...Well I never saw temptation island, but I heard the action was pretty out there too. It did however, die after its 3rd season. I think what John is really looking for is a clever twist that the whole show revolves around. My favourite BB Twist was the Secrets partnerships in season 6, and the Coup d'état which was never used in season 7. I think they want controversy, drama, relationships and pure entertainment. What made me watch those shows are the characters, so I would be careful in my choices when describing it in my pitch.

I'm all for encouraging the free flow of ideas and there is the potential for someone to get their big break with this initiative. No doubt there are hundreds of great ideas out there with little chance of being heard in the world of television without competitions like this. But $4,000 and a "percentage of the format rights" for the next Big Brother? Smells a little cheap to me. What's the percentage deal? Also what happens to the ideas that don't win? Who owns those?

By: Kate Richardson on Oct 28, 08 | 0 Trends | 3 Comments

@ Kate Hm your questions remind me to the same questions any dutyful employee faces who invents something and finds out that in his employment agreement he has signed over all intellectual property rights to his employer and maybe gets a one month salary bonus for an invention that earns his employer millions....

By: Happy Hotelier on Oct 28, 08 | 92 Trends | 335 Comments

Hmmmm I spent a few years doing development for Endemol and have a few issues about shows 'involving boxes' to start with... but hey good luck everyone who decides to enter...

By: Cowbag on Oct 28, 08 | 2633 Trends | 1263 Comments

I think the big deal is that nobody entering the contest would otherwise be producing their own show. So compared to nothing, $4k, a percentage and some fame is pretty cool.

By: Jeremy Gutsche on Oct 28, 08 | 1755 Trends | 2594 Comments

Granada did the same in the UK where an AP thought up a TV show - Ant & Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway where you "win the ads"... And yes a good way of getting ideas from non media community. Bear in mind we are talking about formats that can be sold here which means a % would be ok(ish) in terms of payment.

By: Cowbag on Oct 28, 08 | 2633 Trends | 1263 Comments

@Kate: you have a point. It may be a low-ball, but what the heck? Unless you have producers knocking down your door, where else will you go with an idea?

By: Going Like Sixty on Oct 28, 08 | 3606 Trends | 1499 Comments

Great opportunity. I'd love to see the cast selection regardless of who's idea gets picked!

By: Howard Wu on Oct 28, 08 | 313 Trends | 53 Comments

@Going like Sixty: I'm all for opportunities that wouldn't otherwise eventuate. Strategy is sacrifice as they say. The thing is....there are thousands of people entering this right? Someone even said they had already posted about 30 ideas. So no doubt there will be stacks of good ideas. What happens to the ones that don't win? Do those automatically become the property of the competition? If so, they (John de Mol) are getting a pretty good deal for $4,000 and the percentage license fee on just one idea.

By: Kate Richardson on Nov 2, 08 | 0 Trends | 3 Comments

@Kate: If they use ANY idea, you get paid a fee and a percentage of the format (which would be a lot more than $4,000). In other words, there can be more than one winner. Also, it's really important to note that the point of this program is to get ideas from people who would otherwise never submit a tv show idea. So instead of keeping an idea worth nothing, you have a shot at seeing your idea become something. I think it's exciting!

By: Jeremy Gutsche on Nov 2, 08 | 1755 Trends | 2594 Comments

@Kate: One more update from Talpa, "To clarify, Talpa does not own every idea that is submitted to the contest. Ownership remains with the creator, who maintains the right to pitch his/her idea elsewhere." Nice!

By: Jeremy Gutsche on Nov 3, 08 | 1755 Trends | 2594 Comments

@Jeremy, thanks for the clarification. It's always worth checking these things...

By: Kate Richardson on Nov 3, 08 | 0 Trends | 3 Comments

Only one more day for entries!

Have you heard teases for some of the new reality shows that got made? Nothing is too over-the-top. I'm still submitting via their site! If I can snag one of those space shuttles, I'm totally remaking Lost In Space.
