August 12th marks World Elephant Day, which seeks to raise global awareness of the endangered species. These majestic creatures have brought inspiration to artists around the world, which has resulted in beautiful sculptures, art displays and educational awareness projects.

Beautiful elephant-inspired artworks continue to emerge in various forms such as sculptures made of materials like cardboard, crystal and even steel. While these sculptures are beautiful to admire, they also help bring awareness to the threatened creatures. Many of the sculptures convey a message that silently states action must be taken to protect these beasts.

Beyond the art displays and figurines, there are also photography collections that capture the beauty of elephants. For example, National Geographic photographer Ami Vitale created a photography series to document the efforts of Kenyan communities attempting to rid their homes and the world of poaching. World Elephant Day was created to raise awareness of endangered animals in the hopes that elephants will no longer be threatened by human poachers.
