Relaxation-focused virtual reality programs have the ability to transport an individual to a tranquil space that inspires feelings of well-being, calmness and inner peace, helping to stabilize them in the moment. This application is particularly affective given that controlling positive sensations can be difficult for those managing a mental illness concern.

Additionally, an addiction treatment powered by virtual technology takes patients through a series of three realities. During the second reality that is designed to encourage alcohol cravings, patients drink a vomit-tasting beverage. The patient then encounters the third reality, in which a series of negative scenarios are played out aimed at repositioning alcohol as the root of unpleasant feelings.
