Thai Elephants Painted Like Pandas to Lure Back Zoo Fans

The Thai elephants in the gallery above have been painted to look like pandas in an effort to win back the throngs of zoo visitors who’ve flocked to the panda area at the Chiang Mai zoo after the birth of a female panda cub.

The pandamonium that ensued after pandas Lin Hui and Xuang Xuang gave birth meant that zoo traffic to the Ayutthaya-Elephant Kraal declined significantly. Zoo officials painted the Thai elephants like pandas and led them on a parade in front of schoolchildren in the hopes of reviving interest in these gentle giants.
