From Soccer Superstar Shoes to High Heel Protectors

2014 was a monumental year for the shoe industry; sneakers, stilettos and sandals all made their mark in the annals of the top 2014 shoe trends.

As far as sneakers and sports shoes go, 2014 saw the release of a number of star-endorsed shoes by heavyweight brands such as Nike and Adidas. The biggest stars in soccer, basketball, tennis and other sports all released shoes combining aesthetic design and performance-improving technology. Soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo took things to the next level by unveiling a line of shoes designed for the streets rather than the soccer field.

The world of women's shoes saw previously unseen levels of creativity in 2014. The simple heel was converted into an object of art in 2014, with shoe designers tapping into young women's desire to stand out among the crowd by embracing the eye-catching, the retro and at times the wacky.
