Implications - Our society puts heavy emphasis on youth and beauty, with comparisons usually made to prominent figures in the media (i.e. celebrities). Cosmetic surgery is often paid for by romantic partners and parents, and now even endorsed in some countries--Brazil, Australia, Lebanon--by the government. The billions of dollars spent on superficiality demonstrate a hugely profitable market. Interestingly, paid cosmetic surgery is now being accepted to the point that it’s offered as a perk or reward.
