Snow-Covered Cityscapes
The Yutaka Sone Miniature Manhattan is Made Entirely of Marble

By: Felicia Moursalien (Talented) Dec 24, 11

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas with the Yutaka Sone Miniature Manhattan cityscape created out of marble. The artist has carved a near exact replica with this icy-looking stone, giving the impression that the city has been forged in the ice-age and will remain frozen for eternity. Using Google street view and helicopter rides over Manhattan Island, Sone was able to capture every ridge of archecteure the city has.

With the use of the beautifully smooth, but all together cold and distant marble, the Yutaka Sone Miniature Manhattan succeeds in evoking thoughts of frigidity and isolation. There is also something futuristic and dystopic about looking at a Manhattan completely frozen in ice and time here. The piece gives you an eerie view of Manhattan that has not been seen before.
