Log-Fueled Flame Ovens
The Spruce Stove is a Contemporary Take on Wood-Burning Stoves

By: Gil Haddi (Superstar) Apr 26, 13

Roel de Boer and Michiel Martens have taken a new perspective on traditional wood-burning stoves, creating a new device that truly shows the nature of fuel consumption.

The Spruce Stove is a type of oven that has a vintage appeal with its simplistic construction, yet is completely new and innovative in function and design. The cylindrical barrel houses flames with an opening that slowly contracts to clamp perfectly around the trunk of a tree, preventing smoke and debris from escaping the fire pit. A long tree branch or limb can be placed at the entrance, with a small stand balancing and holding it steady, so that we can watch how the wood gets consumed by the flames as the trunk shrinks in size.

Spruce Stoves are the modern-day wood-burning stoves.
